Papi Chulo's is exactly what Portland was missing and desperately needed.  A more authentic style burrito and taco joint that is not overpriced and has a great marg to accompany your food. As a bonus - a garage door opening the patio that will make this a prominent summer spot for years to come.

I didn't know what to expect coming in, I had heard good things but often felt like portland joints would usually miss the mark on Spanish/Mexican cuisine.  The prices are not bad at the portions are good - my burrito was pretty much the same size as a typical burrito from Chipotle. And WAS THE SAME PRICE.  I got the chicken burrito with pico & guac as well as the spicy marg.  Burrito was fantastic & the spicy marg was amazing. Not too spicy but had a good kick going down.

I can't wait to be here in the spring on the patio - but will surely be back plenty of times before patio season.

I've been SUPER excited to try Papi Chulo's since I read it was opening. Finally a place with some classic birria!

I went on a Monday afternoon and it was pretty busy (well, for a Monday!) but it's in a great location with tons of businesses near by so it makes sense during the lunch hour. I had been thinking about birria for days and I was sooooo happy when I walked in. I got in line and walked up to the counter.... and my heart sank. A sign reading "No birria today" was taped to the counter. To be honest, I wanted to walk out because that's what I drove all the way there for. But, I was hungry still and they had other items I wanted to try!

My boyfriend and I ordered 4 different kinds of tacos and a fresca bowl. Their conchinita was definitely our favorite and the most flavorful protein! Barbacoa came in second place. Their margaritas were also really good!

They have their salsas out available in little to-go containers, which I liked. The jalapeno one was my favorite.

All and all... it was good. The disappointment of not having the one special item they should have available is really what led me to give 3 stars. It's one of those things that makes you wonder if you'll even come back! And I might, but we shall see.

I've been wanting to try this place so decided that tonight was the night. What else to do on a rainy night. :-)
A new Mexican restaurant in a good location. The space is not that big but considering most people probably take it to go... It's all good. Parking in this area is always a challenge.
The menu is pretty short and simple which is attractive. The gentleman at the cash register was very helpful and answered my questions and he had an upbeat personality.  I decided to try steak taco, chicken taco and a chicken burrito without beans.  I ordered it to go.
My order was ready and approximately seven minutes. They brought it to me along with the sauces. The sauces were explained to me and I chose the mild and medium sauces.
When I got my order home I was surprised that the two tacos did not have a lot of filling inside them as some of the photos on yelp show.  But the meet was delicious and the real deal. I was not particularly fond of the taste of the corn tortilla. The burrito was a bit overkill on the rice and minimal on the meat.
The price point was at the high end.  $3.50 for a street taco and $9 for a chicken burrito.
If I happen to be in the area again and was craving Mexican food I would go here again and I would  make it clear on how much meat I wanted in my tacos and burritos.

Best Mexican I've had in a long time! Papi's has a great atmosphere. Nice decor, good music, and good service. We ordered a chicken burrito, carne de res burrito, and nachos. Very reasonable prices for gigantic portions! The food was hot, fresh, and so good! Next time I'm gonna have to try the tacos.

Finally some California flavor in the pearl! Papi chulo's offers some very authentic Mexican fare which is a pleasant surprise for this area. I ordered the Birre beef crispy tacos, which had shredded carne as well as some cheese served with a beef broth that warmed my soul. The green sauce was excellent, and the extra pollo taco I got was fire flame. Literally it burned my mouth. But in a good way. I can finally regain my spice tolerance, and Papi Chulo's is here to stay. They were able to get the orders out in a timely manner and service was great, despite being packed. I will definitely be returning ASAP.
